Frequently asked questions
Is Asa Creative House a nonprofit?
Yes, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Atlanta, Georgia. We run with business discipline: earned revenue and grants fund the work, and the people who make it are paid clearly.
Where do events happen?
Atlanta first. The model is built to be copied city by city across the US, Canada, and the UK through local chapters and partners, and the academy already teaches online, everywhere.
I'm an artist, cook, designer, or vendor. How do I take part?
Apply through the open roles and calls on this site when a season opens, or contact us with your work. Everyone who works a season is paid, terms are agreed in writing before the event, not after.
My culture isn't Yoruba or Igbo. Can the house feature us?
Yes, that's exactly what the recommendation page is for. Tell us your nation and your city. Seasons and chapters are chosen from what communities ask for.
How do chapters start in a new city?
A chapter starts with local demand (recommendations from that city), a local lead, and a partner venue or institution. Express interest on the recommendation page and choose "I'd help lead it" if you're that person.
Is the academy only for children in the diaspora?
No. Asa Roots Academy teaches children in the diaspora and children at home in Africa, in the same live cohorts. Roots are roots, on both shores.
